Why I Created Fasting in Paradise

The Fasting Reality

Let's be honest—fasting isn't for everyone, and it's certainly not for the faint of heart, especially if you're detoxing from sugar, caffeine, or a poor diet. While some people breeze through fasting with minimal discomfort, others experience withdrawal as their body releases stored toxins, creating both physical and mental challenges during what's known as a healing crisis.

Depending on your toxic load, you might experience headaches, fatigue, irritability, or even flu-like symptoms. The good news? These typically last only 12-24 hours as your body clears what it's been holding onto.

When you emerge on the other side, something amazing happens. You feel rejuvenated, clean, awakened—some even say euphoric. It's a feeling you remember, and you realize you can't recall the last time you felt this way.

The reality is, this is how we should feel every day. It's a return to ourselves, free from the things that don’t serve us.

My Personal Journey

Here's something I don't usually admit: when detox symptoms hit, I become incredibly vulnerable and need to feel nurtured above all else. The thought of dealing with headaches, nausea, or digestive upset while surrounded by unfamiliar sounds, smells, and energy feels overwhelming. I need my environment to hold me gently when my body is working so hard to heal.

Being away from home during this process, without access to the specific things that comfort me, felt like asking myself to be strong when I most needed to surrender.

For years, I couldn't understand why I experienced healing crises during fasts despite striving to eat clean and living healthily—until genetic testing revealed why my body is more sensitive to environmental influences. This means I need extra support to prevent toxins from building up and wreaking havoc in my system.

The Spark of an Idea

I've attended several fasting retreats, and each taught me something valuable about what I personally needed from this type of experience. They were wonderful in their own ways, with knowledgeable practitioners and supportive protocols. Through these experiences, I began to understand my specific needs as someone who is particularly sensitive to environmental factors—things like lighting quality, electromagnetic awareness, and building materials that actively support rather than hinder detoxification.

I started to envision what an experience designed specifically for people like me might look like. What would it look like to create a program for individuals who need extra environmental support during their healing journey? That's when I decided to hire a healthy home design and consulting firm and building biologists to create a space that would truly support the detoxification process from every angle.

Creating Something Different

At Fasting in Paradise, I wanted to create more than just another wellness experience. I envisioned a space with minimal environmental toxic exposure—completely free from the chemicals and signature scents you'd find at hotels or Airbnbs. But I also wanted to create an interior that felt like home, with creature comforts readily available for those who need them.

Every detail here has been considered—from timeless design to luxurious, toxin-free bedding and bath products that support your detox instead of adding to your burden. But I didn't want to stop at thoughtful. I wanted intentional. Every aspect of this space is designed with building biology principles to minimize environmental stressors and actually support your body's ability to heal.

These aren't just amenities. They're deliberate choices that help your body do its work while you stay comfortable during what can be vulnerable days.

I also know that "home" feels different for everyone. What I consider essential might not be what you need. That's why these retreats stay small—so I can work with you individually. If there's something specific that would help you feel more secure here, just ask. I can't promise everything, but I'll do my best to make it happen.

Because healing doesn't just happen in the fasting. It happens when you feel safe enough to let your body do its work.

This is why I created Fasting in Paradise: for those who value environmental wellness and personalized care, for people seeking true detoxification in a world that makes it increasingly difficult, and for anyone ready to remember how good they're meant to feel.

Welcome home.
